Review: Aivituvin Rabbit Hutch – Is It really that good?

There are different Aivituvin Rabbit Hutches and some are among the most bought enclosures. Actually, the hutches are that outstanding, that many other manufacturers try to copy them. In this Aivituvin Rabbit Hutch review, I’m going to focus on the AIR10 because this is the model most rabbit owners opt for. It is suitable for indoor as well as outdoor usage and comes with a bunch of other benefits. But later more.

The company Aivituvin was founded in 1990 after the owner gathered several years of experience in crafting wooden furniture. His love for animals was the reason to shift the product and the success proved him right. Now Aivituvin is famous for rabbit hutches as well as enclosures for other small pets like chicken or tortoises.

Things to consider before buying a rabbit hutch

Rabbit hutches are great if you want your rabbit to live outside. They are designed to be weatherproof and to protect your furry friends from predators. However, often rabbit hutches are not ideal as an indoor enclosure. Most of them don’t have a solid bottom all over their ground, which can be a great feature in general because rabbits will have contact with the grass in your garden. But inside you always have to worry about the mess a rabbit makes that can damage your floor.

The Aivituvin Rabbit Hutch is different. It has a solid floor and trays for the mess. Additionally, the wheels make a change of location very easy.

That said, if you live in a flat without a garden, even this hutch may doesn’t make sense and you should consider buying an indoor rabbit cage. But of course, it’s all up to your decision.

Features & Benefits Of The Aivituvin Rabbit Hutch

In this section, I’m going into detail with all the features and benefits that make the Aivituvin Rabbit Hutch so popular.

Assembling

Although the hutch comes in quite many parts you have to put together on your own, assembling is very easy. No tools, but a screwdriver is required. With an electric drill, assembling is even faster and you will be done in under an hour.

Floor Plan & Size

The Aivituvin Rabbit Hutch is one of the spacier hutches which is great as you can keep two buns (of a small breed) comfortably in it. Some people even say that the hutch can fit three bunnies, but I personally don’t recommend that.

The interesting part of the hutch is that it’s divided into three areas and two levels. At the top, you will find a rest area that is closed by wooden walls. Your rabbits will have their private area there, where nobody can disturb them. It’s also the place where the included hay feeder is mounted.

After taking a nap, your furry friends can reach the other level by using a ramp. The staircase has a waterproof roof but the sides are open and covered by a wire mesh. Under the second level is another small area where you can place the litter box, water bottle and other accessories.

Safety

The safety aspect is one of the most important things to consider in a bunny hutch. And I’m glad that this one ticks the boxes. If you want to use the Aivituvin Hutch mostly outside, your rabbits can hide from bad weather on the second level. Even if the small access door is of mesh, you can close it with a PVC curtain to protect your pets from wind and rain.

All mesh that is used for the sides is very sturdy. No predator will manage to get through it and of course, there is no way for your bunnies to escape the hutch. To make this really sure, the manufacturer furnishes every door with locks that no rabbit can manage to open from the inside.

The bottom trays are covered with framed wire mesh. But that isn’t a problem for the sensitive feet of your rabbit because it’s all optionable. If your bunny is messy and can handle the mesh you can leave it and if not, you can just put it away in literally two seconds.

The painting of the wooden parts is eco friendly and the manufacturer included a chewing toy especially to keep your rabbits away from gnawing on the hutch. In most cases this works and if not there are not many toxins in the non-treated wood.

Durability

This is the topic most buyers complain about when they don’t like the Aivituvin Rabbit Hutch. While there are rabbit owners that say, the hutch is sturdy, there are enough on the other side. The wooden parts are made of fir wood and are not treated. That said, some buns tend to chew heavily on it causing significant damage.

I would say it is upon you to decide if this discourages you from buying. You know your rabbit best and have to determine if it prefers hutches over a chewing toy.

Apart from that, I have to repeat, that because of the untreated wood this hutch isn’t a good fit for permanent outdoor use. While it will survive a single unexpected rainfall, the wood will soak up water and rot away when you leave it outside in bad weather all the time.

That said, metall parts and bottom trays are of high quality and there is nothing to complain about.

Cleaning

The design of the Aivituvin Rabbit Hutch is made for easy cleaning. However, in daily usage that is probably not always the case. While there is a door for every area in the hutch for easy access, the bottom trays don’t slide that well.

I first noticed the drawers for every level and thought that it would be very easy to clean them. But sometimes the drawers are hard to move which makes putting the trays out and in difficult.

That said, cleaning is always work and self-cleaning hutches are not yet invented. The doors are wide and you can easily reach every corner of the enclosure.

Aivituvin Rabbit Hutch Alternatives

Don’t want to go with the Aivituvin Rabbit Hutch? There are some alternatives that might be worth considering. Depending on your situation I list some alternatives, that might be a good fit too:

  • Advantek Stilt House Rabbit Hutch: While this hutch looks like the AIR10 there are many differences when you look into the details. It comes without wheels and even without a bottom in the first level, meaning your buns will have direct access to the grass this hutch stands on. The wood is treated and so it is more weatherproof than the Aivituvin. The Advantik Stilt House might be a better choice if you are searching for an outdoor hutch. You can check the price on Amazon.
  • Aivituvin Rabbit Hutch AIR12: This hutch from the same company is 1.5 square feet larger which makes a significant difference if you own a larger breed. This one comes with wheels and removable bottom trays too. So the features and benefits are nearly the same compared to the model in this review. Still not large enough? Take a look at the model AIR04. With an inner space of 12.4 square feet, it is very large. But note that it comes without wheels as well as without a floor.
  • Ferplast Krolik Rabbit Cage: This model is the winner in my roundup review of the best indoor rabbit cages. And that is what it is: an indoor cage. If you are looking for a habitat that you can use in your flat and that meets the needs of rabbits, the Ferplast Krolik might be a good option. You can check the price on Amazon.

Conclusion

While reading this review, you might have noticed that I like the Aivituvin Rabbit Hutch quite a lot. If you have a small bunny like a Netherland Dwarf or a Mini Plush Lop the Aivituvin can be a great fit. But be aware that it comes with a few downsides (honestly, which product does not?). Make sure your little friend doesn’t chew on the wooden parts and secure the hutch when it gets cold and rainy outside you’ll be on the safe side.

I like the wheels for easy moving and the several openings most. In my opinion cleaning this hutch is easier than it is the case with most other habitats. Let alone the movability makes vacuuming around this one so comfortable. I recommend to just check it out on Amazon.
